RECREATIONAL BURNING
Permissible Recreational Fires
When not prohibited by other laws, or by other officials having jurisdiction and provided that a nuisance is not created; the following types of open burning are permissible without the necessity of securing a permit:

- In devices for the primary purpose of preparing food such as outdoor grills and fireplaces.
- Campfires and fires used solely for recreational purposes where such fires are under control of a responsible person 18 years or older.
- In indoor fireplaces and residential solid fuel burning devices.
Guidelines
- Fire must not be larger than 3 feet in diameter.
- Burning of any material other than firewood, charcoal briquettes, propane or liquefied propane gas is prohibited.
- Roy City Fire Department reserves the right to order fire to be extinguished at any time.
Recreational fires shall not be conducted within 25 feet (7620 millimeters) of a structure or combustible material. Conditions which could cause a fire to spread within 25 feet (7620 millimeters) of a structure shall be eliminated prior to ignition.
Open burning, recreational fires shall be constantly attended until the fire is extinguished. A minimum of one portable fire extinguisher equipment shall be available for immediate utilization, such as:
- Dirt
- Garden hose
- Sand
- Water barrel
- Water truck
Non-Permissible Burning
- Burning of waste material prohibited
- Weeds, grass, bines or other growth may be burned only during permitted season with applicable permits.
- No burning of accelerants such as gasoline, kerosene, lacquer thinner or other petroleum products are allowed.
- Burning of paper products of any kind will not be allowed.
- No burning of any material which may cause severe air pollution.
